Medical physics is an interdisciplinary field of study combining physics and medicine, using physical methods in medical diagnostics and therapy. The scope of knowledge within this field covers a wide range of topics in physics, starting from mechanics, through nuclear physics and radiation techniques, and ending with the latest methods of diagnostic imaging (computed tomography, positron emission tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging). Progress in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques is based on the latest achievements in physics, which is why a medical physicist is now an important member of the medical team. Their role includes not only participation in treatment planning, but also the operation of equipment and its preparation for diagnostic examinations. A medical physicist possesses skills that enable collaboration with medical staff in both the diagnostic and therapeutic process (e.g., planning radiotherapy or brachytherapy treatment for patients with cancer) as well as conducting scientific research. The selection of courses in the medical physics program has been designed based on the above assumptions. In semesters 1–4, students learn the fundamentals of physics, acquire the appropriate proficiency in the mathematical tools essential to a medical physicist, and explore the basics of medicine such as human anatomy, physiology, histology, cytology, pathophysiology, and biochemistry.
