Major Lingwistyka stosowana (Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication)

The curriculum of the specialty Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication (ALIC), organized as part of the Applied Linguistics degree, focuses on intercultural communication and multilingualism. It seems that the key qualification that young people need to work in a globalized environment is a multicultural and multilingual competence. To meet the needs of the today’s job market the specialty focuses on the management of language resources and intercultural communication in business/professional settings. In addition, an important element in the curriculum of the new specialty is the acquisition of knowledge and skills in research methodology in applied linguistics, which will help students to better understand the significance of language in the public space. The classes are planned to be conducted only in English (the main language) and German. This two-language curriculum is a novel approach, enriching and extending the list of degrees offered by the Institute of Applied Linguistics, and the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures. Since no knowledge of Polish is required to be able to participate in classes, the degree is intended primarily (though not exclusively) for international students. The main language of the specialty is English.
